So, You Have Never Tried Apple Butter??

What better time of year to make Apple Butter?  Great apples are plentiful and due to the supply they are inexpensive too!  When I come home from the market with a basket or bag full of apples the boys all ask me to make Apple Butter and Biscuits (or sometimes waffles).  I love waking up to the smell of Apple Butter cooking in the crockpot having spent the night bubbling away.  My favorite way to do it is inspired by the Cooking Light Overnight Apple Butter Recipe.

Having recently made a batch of Apple Butter and Waffles for breakfast my little JellyBean (who now would like to be known as Worm) told his teachers and several classmates all about it.  He was upset that most of his friends had never tasted Apple Butter and asked me to make them some.  Long story, short ... I made Apple Butter (it's actually still cooking away in their room) for the Pre-Kindergarten class today.  They helped me cut up the apples using plastic knives and had a delightful time.

  • As with everything else in life I make a few changes ...

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup packed brown sugar substitute (I use the Splenda blend)
    • 1/2 cup local honey
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
    • 10 medium apples, cut into large chunks

    Preparation

    1. Combine all ingredients in a 5-quart electric slow cooker.
    2. Mix it all up to cover the apples throughly.
    3. Pop on the top and cook on low for 10 hours.
    4. Pour the whole mess (it will look like a burned awful mess) into the blender and blend until smooth.

    5. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge, but we don't normally have any of those ...

Comments

  1. It is delicious, as is her pear butter. Makes my mouth water just reading about it and what a fun thing for Jelly Bean (I'm not calling him Worm LOL) to
    share with his class.
