How do you make chickens happy? Apparently, they are like humans and need work to do in order to be happy. What does the sloth understand that we just don't get? I digress ...
Our hens had not been happy lately, so I did a little research and found the answer that we needed. My darling picked up a bale of hay and a bale of alfalfa for the chicken yard and the girls had both torn apart before he got the gate closed. They are now happy to scratch and peck all day long moving the straw about and looking for buried treasure.
Look at the picture and you will notice all of their heads are down in search of food. On the days they cannot free range I toss a little cracked corn in the yard to make the game more rewarding for them and in turn they reward us with more eggs.
